S.O.A.P is a method that my father used to teach me how to understand the Word of God.
S- Scripture: Read a verse that was meaningful to you.
O- Observation: What was interesting in the passage? What did you learn? What was God saying to you?
A- Application: How can you apply this scripture to your life? How will you let it change you?
P- Prayer: Respond to God in prayer. Use the scripture as a guide. Ask God to help you meditate and apply the scripture to your life.
Here is an example:
S- Scripture: Colossians 3:23- “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not unto man”
O- Observation: Working with your whole heart means you are not just halfheartedly going through the motions and working for your next paycheck. It means that you are putting your whole heart into it. Working with your whole heart isn’t so much an action as it is a mindset of serving God with anything you do.
A- Application: Personally, one of the ways I apply this bible verse in my life is by surrendering my business unto the Lord. I want to ensure that Theila Soap isn’t just a business but also a ministry unto the Lord. I do this by placing a S.O.A.P verse on all of my soaps.
P- Prayer: Heavenly Father, I exalt Your name and thank You for Your Word. Help me to not only read Your Word but to understand Your message and apply it to my life. Lord God, I surrender my business into your hands to use for Your glory and purpose. Amen
